Detour Bars Review by Evan

 Detour Bars Reviews
Product: Detour Bars Detour Bars

Review:

Lighthammer is correct. When an oil is partially hydrogenated (which is a process that turns liquid oil into a solid substance which has a longer shelf life and can be used as a solid ingredient), its fat molecules become transsaturated.

Transsaturated fat, or "trans fat", lowers good cholesterol, while raising bad cholesterol. It has gotten a bad rap as of late, and it deserves it. I won't touch anything with partially hydro oil in the ingredient list.

These detour bars contain hydrogenated oils, and have 4g of saturated fat. At least some of that is transsaturated. I don't care if they taste like the best damned snickers bar in the world, anything with that much saturated content is not great for you, and the hydro-oil content is the kicker.

If taste is all you're concerned with, well, have fun. But I surely wouldn't recommend eating transsaturated fat every day. Try some flaxseed, dammit. And find a meal bar without hydro oil. It's not that difficult.
